What remained of the Nqw Zealand Crown Mines Company’s buildingg and plant at Karangab'ake, including about 60,000 ft of timber, was sold by auction an Wednesday by Mr H. Jackson, of Te Aroha. Bidding .was brisk, and disposed! of. realised between £5OO and £6OO.

At a meeting of the Te Aroha Chamber cif Commerce last week it was decided to write to the Minister in charge of the Tourist department requesting that the assjsjtanc.e of the Ethnologist and the Cawt.hron Institute be given, or a.ny other scientific bodies that might be able to. help, to find a remedy for the sandfly nuisance. It was stated that thousands of pounds had been lost to the town because of the; sandflies. Local residents got used to the pest and took little notice, and. were not aware of the, effect on visitors.
