PAEROA BOROUGH.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The Paeroa Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr W. Marshall, presiding over the following: Crs. P. E. Brepan, E. Edwards, H. J. Hare, F. E. Flatt, J. W. Silcock, W. Turner, and Mr W. C. Alexander, town clerk. WATER CHANNEL CROSSING. A letter was received from Mr R- IWells asking for the existing wooden crossing over the water channel, in William Street to he replaced by suitable piping, as, it was unsatisfactory. He was prepared to share the cost. The Mayor stated that a new crossing was certainly needed, and the meting agreed that the; matter be gone into. MARKING OF FIRE PLUGS. The Paeroa Fire Brigade wrote asking for permission to .mark the fir© plugs; in the main street by means, of painted white squares on tJie vertical edge of the kerbing in the gutter, so l as to be locatable at a glance ; the work to, be done and maintained in a workmanlike manner by tine; firemen at no cost to the councilThe Mayor voiced appreciation of the brigade’s offer, and Or. Edwards supported. Permission was granted. HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES. The Hamilton Borough Council wrote -stating that as several town boards were not prepared to allow tile basis of allocation of the; current year’s fees to apply to the year 192930, it would again be necessary to apply to the Court or an order, a.nd arrangements were being made accord 1 - ingly. It was anticipated that the matter would be with -towards the end of March or in April. Swarbrick and Swarbrick, Hamil-. ton, wrote stating that the stipendiary’ magistrate had fixed! the hearing of the application to fix the apportionment of heavy traffic fees in the No. 3 district for March 21, at 10-15 a.m., at the Courthouse, Hamilton'. BOROUGH VALUATION. The Valuation Department notified tli at the district valuer expected to complete the field work of the revision of the borough valuation at the end of March. The matter was referred to the finance committee, power to- act. STREET CLASSIFICATION. The Minister of Public Works w*rote to the effect that the council’s application for approval of the various proposed classifications of streets was, receiving attention, and advice w’ould b e forwarded at an early date. STATION ROAD. The; No. 2 District Highways Council, Auckland, asked for a form to be filled in with reference to the proposal to, declare station Road a main highway in lieu of Arney Street, as the matter would receive Attention at that council’s meeting on March 21. SWIMMING. The secretary of. the Paeroa Amateur Swimming Club wrote announcing tiiat his committee had decided to hold a carnival on the 21st inst., and asked for permission accordingly. Permission was granted on the same conditions as for the last carnival, the council to receive 10 per cent, of the takings. The swimming club also askied if it would be possible to hold a club carnival on the. afternoon of Saturday, March, 30, t;lie idea btjng to decide club championships for girls and. ladies, and also to finish off all noncompleted competitions. The club desired to charge the-, public only a small fee for admission. The council decided to refuse the application on the grounds that Saturday, March. 30, was a public holiday.
