THAMES HOSPITAL.

MONTHLY MEETING. ROUTINE BUSINESS. Very little business came up at the monthly meeting of the Thames Hospital Board on Monday- Mr W. E. Hale presided over Messrs. J. W. Dauby. W. Hall, J. Lange, A. R. Robinson, C. W. Parfitt, W. C. Kennqdy, and the secretary (Mr G. Tonge). REPAIRS AND RENOVATIONSThe district engineer, Public Works Department Auckland, forwarded details of the cost of painting and effecting repairs to the hospital and outbuildings, with the exception of the isolation ward, which was in good order, and the old la, undry which was to be, demolished. The total estimated cost was £585. The secretary reported having discussed with the Public Works Department’s overseer the question of replacing the present picked fence which had beqn up for over 40 years with a patent wire fence. Lt, would be very difficult.to make a satisfactory job of the present fence. The estimates were approve?!, with the exclusion of the fence, and it was decided to ask the public Works, Department t’o furnish an estjanatq lot a wire fence with concrete base, and to call, tenders for the painting, etc. SUN PORCH. Mr Dahby asked if was not possible sible to provide a sun porch for the women’s ward. Hcj was of opinion that the board had received sufficient money by bequests and subsidy on same to provide a porch without calling on the ratepayers. The additional space would provide room for convalescents. It was decide[d to ask the Public, Works Department to submit suggestions concerning the design and estimates of. the cost. BENEVOLENT SOCIETY. The Hauraki Ladies’ Benevolent Society applied for and was granted £lO for charitable purpo&s in Thames during February. PATIENTS AT WAIHI. The Waihi Hospital Board reported having admitted four patients from the Thames district as urgent c,ases. A letter was also received’ concer|ning a Waikin’o woman who was suffering from cpinsumption. It was desirable that she should enter, a : hospital soon, but as there were two cjiildrep it was desired that she enter the Waihi institution so that, she could be visited. The board was asked to assist with the fees to the extent of 30s a weC|k provided the Waihi Board undertook responsibility for, the remainder. The secretary said the medical superintendent had reported that in his opinion three of the four patients were not urgent cases and could quite easily • have bepn brought to the Thames Hospital. It was decided to advise the Waihi Board that, liability would not be accepted for the three cases. In regard to the. application l con-, cerhing the Waikino woman, the chairman said he had .advised the; Waihi Board that the assistance asked for would be granted. The chairman’s.. action was approved. FINANCE. Accounts totalling £lOl7 15s 10d were passed for payment. MAY MEETING. In view of the fact that the election of. hospital boards will be held on May 8, it was decided to hold the May meeting on Monday, the 6tlh, instead of the 13th, to clean up for the new board. PAEROA 'HOSPITAL. Mr Dauby suggested! that in the future the newly elected: board should at intervals hold its monthly meeting at Paeroa. This would be fair to the Paeroa people and the Paeroa committee, and would make for smooth working. The chairman said that tjie time was a long way offIn reply to a question, the chairman said that no communication whatever had been received from the Health Department concerning the Paeroa hospital since the visit of the Minister. A confirmation of. the agreement had not bejen received. IRRECOVERABLE FEES. Irrecoverable fees accumulated since 1923 and totalling £6492 Is 4d were written off. These included deceased pensioners, deceased inmates from the District Hdmes; members of the staff who became inmates and whose fees were, borne by the hospital, and bankrupts.
