THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto: Public Service. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. FRIDAY, MARCH 1, 1929. THE CEMETERY.

The committee's thanks are due to Father Taylor for the suggestion he proffered to the Ohinemuri County Council anent the cemetery and its upkeep. While Father Taylor criticised the state of the cemetery severely it was constructive criticism, which, through the tactful way it was submitted, should bring for/h ini" mediate fruit. He considered a committee should be appointed from the various religious bodies, the Ohinemui i County Council,--and. the Beautifying Society, to make, and keep, the place as it should be. One might go further, and suggest that two citizens in private life be also appointed, for as Cr. CorbCjtt. pointed out, the people are really more responsible; than the council. The Ohinemurj County Council ha,s done what it could in thq matter to the full extent of the funds available for the purpose. The council could not, even had it so. wished, have diverted other moneys to this use. Now that, an eminently practical solution Iq before the public there r.emains no excuse for existing conditions to continue. The council is tq be congratulated and c.ommended on the decisive manner in which it welcomed and acted upon Father Tay" lor’s idea, but the co-operation of everyone is needed. The lead has been given. It lies , with the public themsejlves to. make the cemetery, in Father Taylor,’s own words, “worthy of a Christian community.”
