TURUA. SCHOOL PICNIC. The Turua District School’s annual picnic was held op Friday last, six motor, lorries and numerous .motorcars. being used to convey the parents and children to; the beach at Waiomio. Most of the; chidren donned bathing suits on arrival, and only came diit of the water for lunch. Thus there were not many competitors for the races. All children up to nine years of age who took part in the races received a prize;, and the winners of the other events were as follows: — Girls.--11 and under :F. Ydung, 1 ; I. Hicks, 2. 13 and! under; S. Fisher, 1 ; F. Young, 2 ; A. Gardiner, 3. 15 and under : A. Stephens, 1; A. Gardiner 1 , -2 ; 1. Hicks and F. Young (tied), 3. Single Ladies.— First rate;: SEishor, 1 : 11. Reed, 2 ; L. Aberhart, 3. Second rac.e : E. Stephens, 1 ; I. Griffiths, 2 ; R. Scott, 3. Married Ladies.—First race : Mrs Rudg.e, 1; Mrs Ryan, 2 ; Mrs Williams, 3. Second, ra.ee: Mrs Elvin, 1; Mrs Lord, 2 ; Mrs Watts, 3. Boys.—l 3 and under :A. Turner, 1; D. Troughton, 2; M. BAND SOCIAL. The Turua Town Banff held! another of its socials in the To.wn Hall last Thursday evening, when there was a large attendance off dancers and euchre players. Selections were;played by t.he band outside the hall for half an hour, and' the first waltz was also played by the band. Music for the other dances was provided by Mrs Ba.nkhart (piano), and Messrs. L. Yo.ung (trombone), J. Miller (violin), H. Kcp’by (banjo), and L. Henwood (drums). There were ten tables of card players, and the competition was won by Mrs T. White and 1 Mr JH. Schmidt, while the consolation prizes; went to Mrs J- Hamilton and’ Mr H. Griffiths. KAIHERE. HARVEST FESTIVAL SALE. A danc.e amt sale of. produce in connection with the .Church of England Harvest Festival was held at Kaiherai on Monday evening. There was a large attendance. The d'ance music was provided by Mr P- Battispn and the sale was conducted by Mr J. A. McDonald. Competitions fpir qa.kes given by Mrs A. J- McDonald were won by Mr W. Benny and ‘Mrs F. Bird, and a basket made by Mta Cope was won by Mr McAulay.
