THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto: Public Service. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1929. BREEDERS’ CLUBS & FARM LAND.

The inaugural run took place yesterday of the Thames Valley Jersey Breeders’ Club. That these events do a great, deal of good will readily be appreciated not only by those taking part, but by qveryone interested in farming. The farms and the method of running gone into, the cattle viewed, points discussed, and ideas exchanged are; eventually, for the advantage of all. An experienced farmer would be the first to admit that there is always, something new to. learn, and as a result of outings such as the Jersfejy Club runs something new is undoubtedly gleaned. This knowledge spreads from one to another until, by word of mouth and through the medium of the Press, breeding throughout the country benefits. The two farms visited, yesterday gave a wonderful insight into, what can be done with land at first declared hopeless. The Waihi plains, especially, were in years gone by deemed. utterly useless for pastoral purposes. To-day these very plains, through judicious management and c.are, are grazing and raising stock whose butter-fat returns are in many cases records, and in most cases well •.bove thq average. Further towards the coast the Danish. Settlement, illusr trates what a combination of brain and manual Work Can accomplish to bring new country into splendid grass land. With this in view r it is to be hoped that Waihi is- successful in its attempt to reserve certain areas for pastoral use, as against afforestation.
