MAGISTRATES COURT.
MONDAY’S LIST. DECISIONS OF THE BENCH. The following; cases were heard; by Mr F. AV. Platts, S.M., in the paeroa Magistrate’s Court on Monday : — J. Bertelsen, farmer, Paeroa, v. J. F. Montague, Public Trust Office, Hamilton, claim for £7O 14 s. The countqr-claim for £122 Is 3d. The, magistrate informed 'Mr Porritt, who appeared for Montague, that he would defer the case until the next court, to enable hiin to go into certain banking transactions in connection with the case. AV. Donaldson, horse trainer, Paeroa (Mr E. A. Porritt), v. H. Kershaw, settler, Gisborne (Mr C- N. O |! Neill) £l2 18s for services rendered.
For defendant, a Maori, Mr O’Neill claimed that a summons in Maori as well as one in English should have been served. (On the request of Mr O’Neill the case was gdjourned in order to give time for the; serving of a Maori writ on defendant, whereupon fresh proceedings would be taken. E. Powell, butcher, Paeroa, v. Ihfanaera (ajlas Smiler), a Maori,, Paeroa, £l2 6s 5d for meat supplied. Defendant was ordered to pay' 10s a month, in default seven days’ imprisonment. E. L. Mulgrew, baker, Kerepeejhi, v. James K. Adlum, labourer, Kerepeehi, £l4 12s 5d for bread supplied. Defendant, a Maori, agreed to pay 30s a month.
AV. Morrice; baker, Morrinsvijle, v. P. G. Shirley, sharemilker, Paeroa, £6 2s 8d for’ goods supplied. Defendant was ordered to pay £1 a month, there being a balance pif £4 16s 8d due; in default three days’ imprisoiime|nt.
