POWER FOR WAIHI BEACH
TAURANGA BOARD’S SUGGESTION.
ARRANGEMENT NOT FAVOURED.
The Tauranga Power Board’s suggestion, dated 1 January 3, that an arrangemepit be ag r eed to whereby that board would take into its district supply Waihi Beach was not favourably entertained by the Thames Valley Po.wer Board at its meeting on Tuesday. It was, stated that if the Power Board’s present canvasls o-f the Waihi Plains was satisfactory it would bring supply near tc ; the beach, and within two years it would be reticulated. The residential part was in the Thajnes Valley Board’s district and only a small portion was in Tauranga. There was no time to go ahead this year, but no doubt it would be possible to make; arrangements with the Central Power Board to take it c-ver for five years, and if, it paid the board could take It back-
Messrs Flatt and 'cerbett considered that the board should hold Waihi Beach, which was going to be a vejry popular resort.
Mr Corbett suggested that it must be a payable proposition, otherwise the Tauranga beard! wbtuld not be interested.
Mr Arthur said .that Tauranga was keep on the project, pamphlets having been distributed and speeches made. On the motion of. Mir Price, seconded by Mr Pohlejn, it was decided to investigate the mat tea- and notify the Tauranga Power Board the result at a later date.
