NGATEA. HALL AFFAIRS. The Ngatea Public Hall Society held its monthly meeting on Tuesday evening, Mr G. T. Davidson presiding ovqr Messrs E. C. Barriball, G. Phillips, J. King, S. Phillips, W. G. Hayward, and S. Tarver (secretary). Advice was received from the Bank of New Zealand that yi terms of the agreemqnt the society’s qverdraft limit ha,d been reduced to £l7O. The financial statement for the month of January showed receipts; totalling £l9 6« 9d, and payments, including sharq of the annual charges, totalling £ll 3s lOd. The bank overdraft was £llo' 19s Id, c,a.sh in hand £4 3s, accounts due £2O 3s, and accounts due fOr payment £4 15s 4d.

Complaints having been received concerning the attention given to the hall, it was decided to call appliqatiqns for the position of caretaker. The secretary mentoned that as the drain would shortly be filled, it would soon be necessary tq fence the road frontage to keep cattle frojn straying to the back of the section. The matter was deferred until a later meeting. iOn the chairman asking for an opinion as tq when it would be desir-, able to have the township street lights turned on, the; secretary mentioned' that £lO was still due to the Power Board. The meeting agreed to pay the amount as soon as the money became available, so that application cquldl be made at any time to have the lights switched on.

TURUA. TOWN BOARD. The Turua Town Board held its monthly meeting on Wednesday evening. The clerk reported that the total cost of the repairs to the main highway, together with the work done to Oparia Road, the factory bridges and thq hall entrance, was £215 16s, Bd< This would entitle £l4O of subsidy to be picked up. The question qf doing further work was briefly discussed, and it was referred to the works com-: mittee to- confqr with t'he county engineer and act Dr. t. Miller applied' for and was granted permission to have pipes laid fqr drainage under the Hauraki Road' footpath and for seweragq under Waihou Street and footpath, provided the» work was done to the satisfaction of the board.
