PLAINS HORSE RACES.
CLUB NOT RECOMMENDED. A PECULIAR POSITION. No. reply has yet heen received by the promoters of the Hauraki Plains Racing Club concerning the proposed races on February 23, and a peculiar position results, but it is evident that there will npt be rapes at Kerejpeehi this month. Some months ago permission to conduct a non-totalisator race meeting was granted by the Minister of Internal Affiairs, and early this year application was rna.de; to the Racing Conference for approval of, the proposed programme. Shortly afterwards the; application was returned for minor alterations, and' the next heard of the matter .was a. paragraph in an Auckland daily on Wednesday last as follows :—
“An application from the Hauraki Plains Racing Club for registration was considered by the Auckland District Committee yesterday. As the club is only 15 miles from phiniemuri racecourse the committee; decided it coujd not recommend registraton, as rule 5, part IL, provides that new clubs must be at least 20 miles distant from an already registered club.” It thus appears necessary to await the meeting, of the N.Z. Racing Conference before anything qlse can be done. If t'he application is successful it is proposed to apply to the Minister for another date.
From advice received the Department of Internal Affairs it ap-, pears that while it, is the province qf that, department to license horse races, pqrmissi'on and registration must be received from the Racing Conference, otherwise horsqs, owners, joc.keys, and club officials-; would be prohibited by the Conference fr]om taking part in or attending registered race meetings.
