THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto : Public Service. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1929. THE PAEROA HOSPITAL.

Tlie new Government’s Minister of Health, the Hon. A. J.. Stallworthy, is mqst heartily to be congratulated on the tactful and decisive manne.r in which he settled the long-drawn-out dispute aver the Paeroa 'hospital. The majority of those present at yesterday’s meeting, including Dr. Valinttne, appeared to hesitate thrashing the question out in front of t'he Minister, but Mr Stallwqrthy was emphatic in 'his desire to get. the subject, already so long delayed, settled there and then, instead 1 of allowing matters tq drift on and on, a practice which is unfortunately so common with local bqdies. That a decision was so promptly and satisfactorily achieved is entirqly due to Mr Stallworthy’s efforts. He did npt hesitate to plunge into what must have been for him, as for the most of us, regrettable loc,al discord. In a couple Of hours he straightened out affairs which have been vexing the public for many months, affairs which the Thames Hospital Board, would apparently have let drift on indefinitely. However, to use the Minister’s own words, “let the dead past bury its dead.” The dispute is now settled, and let us hope that from now on t'he hospital dissentions between Thames and Paerop. will be entirely dropped. It is not good for any communities to have friction existing between them. Naturally zealous of our own communal interests, we shic.uldj not lose sight by clinging too zealously to. them of t'he good of the country as a whole.
