THE RAINFALL.
FIGURES FOR JANUARY.. PAEROA RECORDS. Tile rainfall in Paqroa in January was much heavier this year than last, records showing 1.91 inches for 1929 and 0.03 of an inch for 1928. The first week, of thq month sajv the heaviest fall with 1.28 inches, the 3rd ultimo being, the worst day showing .72 qf an inch. The; 19th and 20th, reading, 75 degrees, were the hottest days, with a sudden drop to '54 degrees on the 35th and 26t!h. The prevailing winds came from the Southwest. RAINFALL ON PLAINS. A DRY MONTH RECORDED. The January rainfall, for Hauraki Plains, as, gauged) at the Lands Drainage Department’s office, Kerepeehi, totalled 1.41 inches. Some rain.was recorded on twelve days. With the exception of last year this is the lowest total for any January since 1917, and is 1.12 inches, below t'sp January average of the last sixteen years. Just under an inch of tain fell in the first eight days of the month, there w'Cjre very light falls on the 15t'h and 16th, and one-third of an inch was recorded between the 22nd and 26th.
