RIFLE SHOOTING.

COMPETITION AT AUCKLAND. PAEROA TEAM COMPETES. ,Six members qf the Paeroa Rifle Club journeyed to Aucklandto compete in the Auckland Rifle Association’s annual shooting competitions On Tuesday last. The party left by car at 5 a.m. and arrived on tjie Pqnicse range at 8 o’clock, when the shoo, ting. commenced. The long car journey, however, affected some of the; party, and their shooting did not come up to their usual standard.

F. C- Hubbard was the most successful, having won, besides £4 in prizesmoney/ the Silver. Challenge Cup, presented by the Auckland “Star” for annual competition, and a trophy presented by Mr Hutchinson, qf Auckland. This, cup and the trophy, besides £2, were awarded Mr Hubbard for being, top at the 300 yard's range with 33 out of a possible 35. He also came second at the 600 yardls range;, besides obtaining minor prize-money places at two. of the 'other ranges.

The next successful of the Paeroa riflemen was R. Wells, who obtained sec,ond place at the .900 yards range, having registered the same total as, the winner, but he lofet on the count back. He also got into minor prizemoney places at three qther ranges. The second and fourth prizes at this range were won by Paeroa riflemen, the latter going to Captain ’H. Simmonds, who also came fourth in the Service Match, seven rounds in 25 seconds at 300 yards, range. Altogether, considering the long car journey, and the short time the Paeroa Rifle Club has been in existence, the members can be congratulated on their fine performance; against some of the crack riflemen of New Zealand. There were, altogether, over 60’ competitors at each rangq, being from all over the Auckland province. The following are the Paeroa scores at 300, 500, 600, 800, 900 yards, the total, and the; Service Match, 300 yards, 7 shots in 25 seconds:— ' F. C. Hubbard, 33, 30, 33, 46, 43, 185, 19 ; £4, with Auckland “Star” Cup and Mr Hutchinson’s trophy. H. Simmonds, 31, 31, 29, 43, 46, 180, 26 ; £1 15s. R. Wells, 28, 27, 30, 45, 47, 177, 18 ; £2.
