THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motta: Public Service. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. MONDAY, JANUARY 28, 1929. PAEROA WEEK.
The success that other towns have haiu with their special shopping weejks should be an encouragement to Paeroa to emulate. Res.ults in other centres have more than proved inc.reasqd, business, not only during the special week, but after. Summer is undoubtedly the opportune time to hold such an affair, and taken ’in hand by some responsible body representing the town, such as the Chamber of Commerce, the organising and launching of the scheme should present little difficulty. T.here are many shopXand business, houses in town which are, only too willing to help onc.e the lead has been taken. Men w,ho are keen not only to increase their own turnover, but to see the town occupy its rightful place, that of shopping centre for a wide, lich, and populous district. Geographically it is so placed, and if only its. handiness and' attractiveness from a purchasing point of view were a little more advertised it would be 'S|O placed in actual fact. All that is needed is a little happy co-operation on the part of its citizens to bring the town into its, own. T'o add to the drawing power elf shopping week no dK>ubt all the local societies and sports'- bodies would gladly help. During the week a carnival of varied attractions could be held concurrently, bowls, cricket, swimming, sports, amateur theatricals, dances; to just enumerate a few. There are a host off ways without incurring much trpuble or expen'c(e t)o make Paeroa Shopping Week an outstanding event of the year, and possibly of each year. The contention that the week once over, business
would .relapse to its usual dimensions is not supported by experience or evidence. Many people in the surrounding country do nrit know Paeroa. In all likelihood they have never been here, and at anyrate db all their, shopping in other towns. Once show to them the great advantage of shopping in Paeroa and they will naturally came again. Paeroa will be their town, to visit for business for. shopping, and for entertainment.
