NGATEA. SWIMMING FACILITIES. The floating pontoon bath which tne Ngatea Swimming Club has, had made for the safety of its younger members and to facilitate the teaching of swimming was safely launched in the Piako River last week and drifted into position at the club’s site opposite the school-house at Ngatea. The pontoon was constructed by Mr B. E. Trevelyan free of charge tq the design of Mr J. E. Reid, president of the Swimming Cilub, and the timber was bought with, funds raised by public subscription and by means Of. a bottle-gathering drjve. It is a substantial affair 30ft long and 10ft wide, the frame being made of 12 by 12 kauri obtained from the old battery at Kpr.angahake. Attached ito this frame are battens to form walls and. a floor. The bath floats to a depth, of thirty inches, and the battens also form a wall 2f.t abetve the water. There is no chance of the pontoon dapsizing, for six men sitting on the frame at one side only submerged it half an inch below the normal level; POPULAR GIRL FAREWELLED.

The Ngatea Tennis Club and the Ngatea Ladies’ Hockey Club combined to bid farewell to a popular ■member, Miss Joyce Rountree, at a social function at the residence of Mr and Mrs R- Hastings on Thursday evening. About 50 club members and their friends were present, and there was dancing, games, and cards. The progressive euchre tournament was won by Mrs Bertelsen and Mr S. Phillips, while the consolation prizes went to Mrs. Barriball and Mr G. Pringle.

On behalf of the members of the two clubs Mr A. E. Ludlow asked Miss Rountree to accept a leather, suitcase. The Rev. E. R. Alexander responded on Miss Rountree’s behalf.

Miss Rountree leaves Ngatea tomorrow to take up a position in a private hospital at Hamilton.
