MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL. routine business. The Hauraki Plajps County Council held its January meeting yesterday, Cr. E. L. Walton presiding over Crs. J. C. Miller. C. W. Harris W, Madgwick, F. J. Mayn, H. H. Hicks, and J. A. Reid. The enginejer, Mr F. Basham, the clerk, Mr, E. A. ■Mahoney, and the; inspector, Mr W. White, were also in attendance. SHELLING MIRANDA ROADMr Geo. Coxhepd, a Miranda Road settler, waited upon the council, and was introduced by Cr. Harr,is, xvlho explained that he desired to extend the shilling of the Miranda Road for a distance of 31 chains for a con-’ sideration of £6O off his rates. The work would be under the direction of the county engineer, and the; £6O would be less than half his rates.
Mr Coxhead explained that he would guarantee to spread) shell, a foot deep for the 31 chains for the sum quoted. The work would provide an outlet for the settlors; to Miranda provided the rpadi in the Waikato county was done. He could practically (guarantee that a group •of settlers would undertake this spc.ticin of roa<J. and that the Waikato county would assist them jvith the formation wor,k.
In reply to Cr. Madgwick Mr Coxhead explained that his offer was at about half, the cost at which the county could bet t)ie| work done. The council ac,ceptedt he differ. PATETONGA ■METALLING.
The Lands Dr.ainage Enginepr, Kerepeehi, advised on December 21 that tenders for supply and (Delivery of metaf closed on January 14.
The cartage of clay required for filling depressions and haunching the metal .would be commenced aftejr a tender had been accepted and carried out so that clay would be delivered well in advance of the metalling.
The specifications fpir, the road metalling provided for the quarrying and carting of the metal to the various roads by the; contractor., the Department reconditioning roads and spreading the metal. The work comprises metalling eight miles 20 chains of roads and. the widening and improvemfejnt of the existing formation where necessary.
The following are the roads tot be metalled: Part of the Pateitonga main road seven, miles in length, commencing at the end of th© existing metal at the intersection of ithe Patetonga main road and the Maukoro Landing road, and ending at the junction of the, Patetonga main road with Kafhere Road; and part of the Patetonga Landing road comraencmg at its junction with, thej Patetonga main road and ending at the so’ttth-eastern ccirner of section 57, Block XIII., Waihou S.D.
The approximate requirements for the threje seasons during which th® contract: is to be carried qut ar,e: from January 1 to March 3,1, 1929, Government subsidy $2640, , county contribution £660 ; from November,' 1, r 1929, to March 31, 1930', Government ’ subsidy £6400, county £l6o*o ; November 1, 1930, ,to February 28, 11)31, Government subsidy £4578, country £1256. It was agreed to r,atse £66!) of the .IpiaiV and pay it ,to the department when necessary. MIRANDA/ ROAD. The Public Department, Paeroa, advised that the £5OO for Miranda Road, cotild not be excluded from amour it of the bouncil’s automatic allocation of Govternment money. / >. SHELLY BEACH ROAD. Cr. Hicks U’.entioned that the Hauraki United’Drainage Board;, proposed improving the Shell Beach roadside, drain and. -was wondering whether the county Leonid make use of thy spoil if it was all thrown on. ito the roadside. , . On, the chairman’s motion. the’, en " gin'eer was authorised to deal tb.e Drainage Board. DRINKING TROUGHS. Or. Hicks spoke of the advisability of installing drinking troughs on; th® roadside between Ngatea and .Wh 1 * takaruru and the benefit of stock.' The matter was referred tpi the Water Committee for, a report. WINTER GRAZING. Cr.
