MOTOR SPEED RECORD.
• — NEW ATTEMPT BY CAMPBELL. A SOUTH AFRICAN TRACK. RUGBY, Jan. 14. Captain Malcolm Campbell will leave shortly for South Africa, to attempt to set up a new motor speejl record in his Blue Bird motor-car. Captain Campbell established a world’s record at Daytona Beach last February, with a speed of 206.956 miles an hour, which' was fastejr by three miles an hour than the previous record. A few days later Ray Keech beat Captain Campbell’s record by a mere fraction. As to the; capabilities of the Blue Bird, Captain Campbell Said he was travelling at 220 mijes an hour before he finished the course at Daytona. The new attempt on the re-cord- will be made on an area of firm clay, 20 miles long and 10 miles broad, situated about 400 miles from CapetownCaptain Campbell states that if he fails he; will return and) build another Car, for which he already has designs, and will make a further attempt. Major H. O. Segrave has had a car of 1000 h.p. built for an attempt on the record in March at .Daytona.
