BLAZE IN MAIN STREET.
MOTOR-CAR BURNED. FIRE 7 BRIGADE CALLED OUT. At about nine o’clock last night a small motor-car owneji by the Te Ardha Dairy Co., Ltd., and 1 used by the company’s local agent, Mr J. McLean, was completely destroyed by fire just outside Messrs Brepan and Co,’s garage hi Belmont Road. The car had just received a supply of benzine and was bejng crankedl by one of Brenan. and Co.s employee's, preparatory to being taken into the garage, when it back-fired and in an instant was ablaze.
Two were quibkly obtained from the garage, and. with these the fire was almost put out twice, but when these vrepe exhausted the fire took a fr.esJh. lease of life. The services of the fire brigade were then called upon, but by the time the brigade arrived the car was completely ruined. Whejn the fire started the car was right alongside the bowser, and had to be quickly pushed along the road a few yards, to ensure the safety of the; bowser. It is understood) that the car was covered by insurance.
