POUARUA ROAD RELIEF.

CANAL TO BE CUT. DREDGING AT WAITAKARURU. It is understood in Waitakaruru that in a few weeks’ time the Lands Drainage Department will commence dredging a. canal from the Wajtaka-< ruru-Maukoro Canal to Pouarua Road along the back of the sections fronting Pipiroa Road. The cut may then extend alo.ng Pouarua Road. Its purpose ' will be to cut off the water which some;times flows to the Piako River and causes damage to land near the river.

To enable the dredge to get to the work the bridge o.n the main highway near the cheese factors will have to be removed, but it is unlikely that the road will be obstructed for long, as on a previous occasion a dredge was passed through and the bridge restored in two hourfy In the event of the interruption bejng of longer duration, traffic may be deviated to a dam about three miles; up the canal. The Hauraki Plains West water, main will also have to be brokqn to let the dredge pass.

It has not been possible to interview the lands drainage engineer (Mr E. Taylor) on the matter,, as he is away from the; district on depart! mental business.
