Small effort was made by the business community in the way of. decorations, but particular attention had been paid to stocking the shops with a wide range; of attractive and sear; s.onable articles that find a ready sale at this time of the year. Articles suitable for gifts were possibly in greater selection than ejver, before attempted, especially inexpensive lines. Shopping this year, was not confined to Christmas Eve. On the Friday and Saturday previous an improvement was quite noticeable. This was due to the holiday falling on Tuesdey, and many who were leaving on Saturday or Mondey made their purchases, beforehand.
