PUMPING SCHEME.

DRAINAGE FACILITIES. IMPROVEMENTS AT NGATEA. At the meeting of the Hauraki United Drainage Board on Friday last the clerk reported that the chairman and Messrs S. G. Williams, J. Hamilton, and F. L. Hamilton had met Messrs T. Wheeler, J. McKerchar, S. McWatters, R. Rowlings, E. Flavell, H. F. Louch, E. Martin, C. Dale, F. Speedy, and W. G. Hayward at Ngatea recently to discuss improvements to the drainage facilities. In the discussion which took place it was pointed out that the difficulty experienced wks due to the .water from the higher lands coming down and remaining on the low land until the Piako River, permitted the outlets to function. Pumping, seemed to be the only chance of getting immediate relief, but this would be useless unless the area to be pumped was defined find restricted. On Mr Hayward’s motion, seconded by Mr Dale, it was decided that the HAuraki United Drainage Board be asked to define boundaries for a water-tight area, and that the Kere-peehi-Kopuarahl road be the watershed fom the Horaihia road on the north to above the Louch-McDuff drain on the south, and on this being agreed .to by the board the settlers within this area would be prepared to find their own pumping, sysjtem and run it at their own expense, and maintain it, and would be agreeable to any loan money available for expenditure in this area, being spent towards relieving the settlers outside the area.

After considerable discussion Mr F. L. Hamilton moved, and Mr Williams seconded, that the lands drainage engineer be asked to define a watershed east of kerepeehi-Kopua-rahj Road in the vicinity of the boundary of the Horahia-Opou special rating area from the Horahia road) to above the Louch-McDuff drain. The motion was carried 1 .
