HORSE RACES ON PLAINS
HACK meeting sought. UTILISING KEREPEEHI COURSE. The proposal tq hold a picnic rage meeting on the Kerepeehi racecourse in February waa advanced at *P enthusiastic meeting of about 40 Hauraki Plains settlers at Kerepeehi on Thursday evening, when the Hauraki Plains Sports Association was formedin reply to the application made a® the result of the previous meeting, Mr A. M- Samuel, M.P., forwarded a form of application to the Minister of Internal Affairs op which to apply for a license tq conduct a hack race meeting. This, form required details of the proposed programme, and the following events were decided on 1, Patetonga Maiden Handicap, of lOsqvs, .5 furlongs; l 2, Kerepeehi Handicap, of 15 so vs., 7 furlongs; 3. Turua Hack Hurdles, of 20*sovs., 1% miles; 4, Hauraki Plains Cup, of 3ff sews., 1% miles-; 5, Kaihere Ladies Bracelet, of 10 soys., 1 mile; ®, Waitakaruru Welter Handicap, of 15 sqvs., 7 furlongs; 7, Ngatea Handicap, of 20 sovs., 6 furlongs. Mr H. Dent, of Ngatea, was Wpointed president of the Association, Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P., patron, and' Mr J. E. Smith, of Kereepehi, secret tary and' treasurer. The forty-odd men present signified their intention of becoming members, and a committee was set up to canvass the whole of the Plains to secure further, members. The membership fee was fixed at £1 Is. Saturday, February 16, is the date for which application is be* ing made.
Some years ago a similar movement was made, bat for some unexplainable reason the permit was granted for a trotting meeting.
