UNBELIEVABLE CRUELTY.
BOYS’ MOlftlD MINDS. TREATMENT OF A DOG. Two boys, aged II ana 8 years, respectively, who had been guilty of almost unbelievable cruelty, were dealt with by Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., in the Child Welfare Oqurt at Gisborne recently. “The circumstances sho.w a very morbid; state of mind as far as these boys are concerned, when they treated a little dog as they did,” said SeniorSergeant Mac Lean. He explained l that the dog (a Maltese poodle, valued at £2O) was used for breeding purposes, and the ojwner, while attending the ■show, had left it at home. The eider boy took the dog to the home of the other, lad, and suggested tlftt he should leave it ther,e, as he did not want it. “They then did a most cruel thing,” continued the sergeant. First they tried to drcjwp the dog, but failing in that they hit it on the head with sticks until the blood oozed from its nostrils. Even then they did not kill it, so they tied it - by its tail to a fence .and bashed it on the head with sticks until it expired- There were a number of boys and girls watching the incident, and the method these boys adopted was most 'outrageous.” The boys were admonished severely by the magistrate, and were placed under, the supervision of the Child Welfare Officer for six months.
