NETHERTON DRAINAGE.
MEETING OF BOARD. The monthly meeting Qf the Nethei’ton Drainage Board was hqld at the Netherton Hall op Friday last, Mr G. Buchanan presiding over Messrs J. A. Reid, B. Halligan, F. T. V. E. A. Chester, and the secretary, Mr J. E. Green; AUTHORITY TO BORROW. A letter was received frpm the Minister of Internal Affairs giving authority to the board to borrow up to £657, being two-thirds of the estimated rates that would be collectable. On the chairman’s proposal, seconded by Mr Halligan, the necessary resoluticjn to borrow the money on overdraft from the National Bank was carried. SIGNING OFFICERS. On Mr Chester’s motion, secou led by Mi Halligan, the chairman or Mr J. A. Reid and the clerk wer.e empowered to operate on the board’s bank accounts. PUKAHU ROAD CULVERT. Considerable discussion centred round the advisability of putting in a culvert to effect drainage into the main outfall drain at the corner of Pukahu and Await! roads, and it was eventully decided that the culvert pipe at the intersection between Roache’s and Hare’s corners be lowered to take all the available fall. Messrs Johnson and Halligan were autuhorised to have the work cajried out. SUBDIVISION AREAS. Thq matter of deciding which sub? division this area Should be included in was left until next meeting, when it was hoped to have a plan from the Lands Drainage Board showing the levels. ELSTOW BOARD, A letter wa,s receivejl from the Elstow Drainage Bqar,d stating that Mr M. A. Carter would act on behalf of that board in discussing the matter of drainage between the two boards. It was dtecided to inform Mr. Carter that when the data came to hand from the land drainage engineer he would be notified. PUKAHU ROAD FLOOD-GATE. Recently it was brought under the notice of the Public Works Department that the, flood-gate at the junction of the Stop-bank and Pukahu roads had. not been connected) up witn the drains in this area, and was therefore of no use. A sketch plaJi showing that the necessary drain would require to be 19% chains partly new work, with deepening and cleaning of existing road drains, was put forward by the department with an estimate of £2 10s a chain. The chairman said it was most desirable to have this work done, but it should have been completed by the Public, Works Deparment. It was essentially unfinished work.
It was decided to approach the Public’Works Department with a request to have this wor.k completed, the matter being left in the hands of Messrs Buchanan and Reid, with powe s r to act. PUMPS. It was decided to make a tour of inspection of the pumps Working in the Elstcw Board’s area on Thursday next, and to meet at the corner of the Awaiti West Road at one o’clock. A letter, with sketch of pumps, was received from Mr Hopkins, and it was decided to thank Mr Hopkins for his letter, and notify him that her wquld be communicated with if the board decided to consider the matter of installing pumps. CLASSIFICATION OF LANDS. The warrant appointing Mr G. Buchanan classifier to the board was signed. It was decjqdd to ‘hold a special meeting of the board as soon a; the work of classification was completed. CLEANING OF DRAINS. Mr Halligan asked what was going to be the policy of the board With reference to the cleaning out of wqpds in the drains. After some discussion authority was given to Messrs Halligan and Johnson to call fqr tenders or, put on men to drag weeds or do any urge”! c work in the Awaiti area if they • thought it advisable. A limit of 4EIO was placed on this work. In connection with the Drain H area, Messrs Re;id and Chester were empowered to incur expenditure up to £lO, and Mr Buchanan, in the Cither portion, was given similar authority.
