ngatea. HALL SOCIETY. The committee of thei Ngate* Public Hall Society held its monthly meet-; ing on; Monday evening, iMr G. T. Davidson presiding. Mr W. J. Clare wrote tendering his resignation as a. member qf tine committee, as he had left thje district. On thej motion of the chairman the resignation was accepted: with regret, and a resolution recording appreciation of his work was carried. The Ngatea branch of the Plunket Society wrote asking for a. rebate oh the charges for hire on the 'occasion of the annjual ball. As the charges had been paid before the request was received, no action was taken.

Three alternative tenders were ree.eived for the work of placing the pipes in the roadside drain and filling the drain. A letter was also received frqm, the, Ngatea School Committee offering earth at 9dr a cubic yard if neimoved by the society. It was agreed to accept tihe .tender of Mr J. E. Reid for the filliJte, iajid l to approach him for a reduction in the price; of laying the pipes. The financial statement for the mqnth of .October showed receipts totalling £2l Is 6d. and expenditure, including proporition of annual charges, totalling £64 14s 9d. The major items bf expenditure were £46 5s for concrete pipqs a:n[di £7 3s 3d for repairs to the building; The bank qverdraift was £97 3s lid, the cash, in hartd £1 2s 6d, and accounts due to the society £24 19s 9d. A tentative agreement' whereby the society would give; the County Council a guarantee to pay for. the Ngatea township street ligjit was received from the council. Exception was taken to the fact that there was no clause terminating the agreement, an|d that the full control of the lights was retained! by th© counc.il, whereas the society was flnlancially liable for any additional lights the council might require. The matter was referred to the chairman and secretary to have thfe necessary amendments, made. Subject to the society taking over the street lights it was agreed to increase the secretary’s salary by £5 a year from November 1,
