CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING.
A PLAINS PROPOSAL.
At the instance of the Kaiherq School Committee a ■ meeting xvas held at Ngatea last Thursday evening to discuss a proposal to (hold a Hauraki Plains schqol athletic championship sports meeting, the following school committees being represented : Kaihere, Tur.ua, Pipiroa, Kopuarahi, Ngatea, and Netherton. Mr .C. S. Foster, Ngatea, was appointed to preside. . . . . .
Mr E. Cowdrey (Kaihere) qutlined. tlhe proposal, which had been communicated to all the school committees by circular letter, and asked, for a discussion on the; proposal. It was thought that schools should hold their annual picnic and spoxts as usual, atfd at these sports competitors could: be picked' to represent their school in the championshipgathering. A long discussion ensuejd On the questions of xvhat events equid be held, what trophies should be given, an|d how the meeting could be financed: for the fi.re| year, but no finality was reached, and as all the Plains schools were not represented it xvas agreed that it wquld be unwise to make any definite decisions.- The matter will be discussed by the various committees and a further meeting will be; held at Ngatea on! Tuesday, November 27.
Tuesday, February 14, was suggested as a date for the sports, and Ngxtea as the location. Mr Foster reported that application xvas being made to the trustees of the Herbert Smith Tnnst, Fund for a school championship trophy. The meeting instructed Mr Foster to obtain quotations for medals and-cups: suitable for prizes.
