HAURAKI DRAINAGE.
WEST BOARD MEETING. The Hauraki Plains West Drainage Board met at Ngatea on Thursday afternoon, Mr C. W. Parfitt presiding over Messrs T. A- A. H. McClean, R. Douglas, J. Motion, and E. L. Walton (clerk). REQUEST FOR PIPES. Mr J. E. Leonard, Puhanga, wrote on behalf of himself and Mrs A. H. Dudding, asking that pipes be supplied to renew the wooden culvert under the road from their boundary drain. Mr T. A. McClean explained that the drain , had regularly maintained by the Lands Drainage Department. It was decided to defer the matter until the inspection o<f the. area. UNIFORM GENERAL RATE. The internal Affairs Department advised that in connection with the board’s desire to levy a uniform general rate, it wag necessary to advertise particulars and f°r. objections. On this being done, ,the matter would be given consideration upon the expiry of the period allowed for the receipt of objections.
The Under-Secretary pointed out that the authority, if granted', would apply for the current year only, and the granting of such authority m any year, did not relieve the drainage board from its liability to prepare a classification list of its district. It was therefore suggested that early steps should be taken) tq have a classification list prepared. The action of the clerk ip advertising, as directed andj forwarding a copy of the Hauraki Plains Gazette to the department was approved. Tlie chairman pointed out that it would be necessary to appoint a classifier. It was necessary to have a classification, even if a uniform general rate was to be applied for tiiPfnually.
In reply to a question as to, jvhat a classifier would charge, the chairman said .that th© Horajhia Boalid’s district had been classified for .15 guineas.
The clerk lepor.ted that the Hauraki Plains West water supply district had been classified for 25 guineas. As that, arqa, andi the board’s area were the same, Mr E’. F. Adams would probably do; the work for much less.
The chairman was instructed to interview Mr Adams on the matter and report. PAUL’S FLOOD-GATE
Mr J. E. Reid, Ngatea, reported haying made and fitted a wooden gate at Paul’s butlqt, as instructed. Repairs had also been made to the N'gatea outlet, but neither job been really efficient, as the concrete faces wqre badly c,hipped. Mr. Douglas stated that both gates were; leaking slightly, but nothipg could) be done until the spring tidfes had gone and It was possible ,to reface the surfaces where they we,ie broken. Mr Reid had made; as good a job as was possible. Mr. A- McClean suggested adopting Mr Reid’s suggestion of fitting a took on the bottom cjf flood-gates sb that they could be opened wide on occasion to flush but thei c,ulvert. It was agreed to experiment on the Nga.tqa wopden gate. / INSURANCE. It was decided to take out an insurance policy to cover accidents to casual employees;
