SPECIAL MEETING.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

A special general meeting the newly-formed swimming club was held on Friday night, Mr W. D. Nicholas, occupying the chair. There was an attendance of 48, which speaks well for the; future of .the club. At the first meeting 23 members were registered; anft 35 new members were elected on. Friday night, making a total of 58.

The rulqs qf the club as suggested by thg provisional committee were taken seriatim anil confirmed.

The chairman stilted that in ordei to get a thorough grasp of the business of the South Auckland Centre, and what would be required, he, in company with the; acting secretary, Mr H. V. Cocks, had attended the annual meeting of the South Auckland Swimming Association -at Hamilton op. Mqnday night last. The colours of the club, blue and gold, had been registered, and also the 440yds championship had been allotted: to the club for competition. There was alsq a possibility of getting thq 75yds ladies championship and the junior central carnival of the South Auckland Centre held at Paeroa. These two' latter events had been givCn to Cambridge, but ip the event of that club not desiring to take advantage of the;m they .would be given to Paeroa, apd he had, on behalf of the club, accepted the responsibility of carrying ithetm out.

The chairman said the news that a club had been, formed had been enthusiastically received at; the meeting of the centre, and delegates present offered to assist the club in every’ possible manner. The Morrinsville delegates had also offered to come to Paeroa. and assist the club when carrying out a carnival. This npws was received with enthusiasm.

A letter was received from t‘ ie Waihi club congratulating the club on its formation and offering every assistance it could.

A Iqtter was also received from Messrs Masters and Son qffering to donate a medal for competition, and a resolution was passed thanking the firm for its generous offer. Mr Stewart said that four silver cups had beeni procured by the school committee for competition amqng, the junior and high school; .childrein. The election of officers .was as follows : patron, Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P.; vice-patrons, Messrs W. Marshall and E. S. Masters ; president, Mr W. D. Nicholas; vice-presidents, Messrs FG. Williams, G. S. Taiboys, P. S. Meac.hem ; auditor, Mr G. E. Allen ; treasurer, Mr S. Denize; secretary, ■Mr Cqcks; committee. Miss M. Cocks, Messrs Priestley, F. Hayward, R. Swann, A. Jenkinson ; delegates to South Auckland Centre, Messrs W. D. Nicholas and H. V. Cqcks. The offer of a medal from Mr F. G. Williams for the first carnival was accepted amidst applause.

At a meeting of the committee immediately follqwing the general meeting the-secretary was instructed to ascertain from the Borough Council if the club could have the use of the baths on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He was also authorised to prqpure quotations for the supply of monograms.. A suggestion of holding a club car-; nival fqr the opening of the, club was favoured, but the matiter was left until the next mcqting of .the committee.
