KEREPEEHI-KAIHERE ROAD.
OPEN IN A FORTNIGHT.
The road from Kerepeehi across the Kevepeehi block to Kaihere and tlie southern end of the Plains .will be ■ opened for traffic, in about ;a, fortnight’s time, thus providing the first all-weather outlet for the Kaihere settlers, who have been waiting for ’over twelve years.
By an arrangement ien,teied into ilast week the Lands Drainage Department will run the ferry at the Ngarua landing for one year, with the purpose of ascertaining the volume of 'traffic, and the department and County Council will share equally in whatever pro-fit or loss there is on the 'working. The apjrrtoach roads t.o the Kerepeehi bridge an<Ji the Ngarua ferry have been metalled, the old Orongo ferry pontoon has been secured and is being, overhauled, and the bridge at Kerepjeehi can be completed in a few days! after a dredge has passed up the canal. The ferry will be pulled a,cross by a for the time being, (but the Lands Department hopes to secure an engine shortly. The ferry vili be available day and night, ana the charges will be similar to those operating at the Komata North cressfing,; including ’the, additional charges for night work.
