ARMISTICE DAY.
CIRCULAR ISSUE® BY PREMIER.
• A circular in connection, with 9rmistic,e Day observance has been issued by the Prime Minister, Mr Coates.
“The whole Empire has united since the year 1918 in commemorating Armistice Day by a solemn silence of two, minutes, beginning at the hour of 11 a.m. in each country, dominion, and dependency,” the circular states : “His Majesty has expressed the wish that in this present year, when Armistic.e Day falls on Sunday, a service of commemoration should be held in the churches, and the Government of New Zealand trusts the several denominations throughout the Dominion, will agree to devote their morning services on Sunday, November 11, to that object.
“If those services commenced, as is usual, at 11 a.m., it would be; difficult to observe equally the precedent of silent commemoration at the same hqur. For that reason, the special services at Westminister Abbey, at which the King will be present, has been, by His Majesty’s • desire, appointed to commence at 10.45 a.m During that service, at the hour of 11 a.m., the solemn silence will be observed.
“The New Zealand Gc ; verment trusts the Dominion churches will agree to arrange that on Sunday, November 11, the morning, service shall commence not later than 10.45 o'clock, and that in the course of those services the several congregations may be invited ;to rise at 11 ■a.m., and silqnce be observed for twq minutes. In cities or boroughs in which the trams aro running on- a Sunday, it is desired the trams should stop for two minutes at 11 a.m. The Government trusts that all those who are unable, to attend church service on, that date will, in accordance with the precedent follwed since 1918, observe solemn silence for two minutes at 11. a.m. on that date.”
