KEREPEEHI. ■ ' PUBLIC MONEYS. The position, of the Kerepeehi public hall ss-ite fund and the publiclyowned piano and hall crockery fund was explained l at a public meeting, on Saturday evening. The meeting had been called by resolution of a public meeting held some weeks ago for another purpose, and the trustees of the two funds, were present by request. Mr J. M. Thompson, presided, and there ware presenjt Mr W. Booth, trusteie of the hall site fund ; Mr H. Hoff, trustee of the piano fund'; and Messrs P. Pejarson, T. L. Morrison, C. Clifford, G. Boswell, W. Parsons, D. Shilton, and J- Murdock, in. whose residence the meeting was held. Mr Bcpth told the meeting that in 1924, wlh.cn Mr G. Avey, secretary of the public hall site fund, was leaving. Kerepeehi, he called’ a meeting of the society, but only two membelrs attended, with the result that .the; books and cash had been) left jvitfli- him. There was then £l3 10s lOd in the bank and £2 2s 6d z in c.ash. Hei had called meetings on twci occasions, but each time the attendance was too small and nothing was done. Bank 'charges had reduced the sum in the bank to. £lO 16s 7d a,nd rates on the hall site had reduced the. cash in hand to 9s Bd. A cheque for £2 Bs,. dated in 1923, had not been presented • and was nc ; w stale. Drainage rates had been paid in 1926, and cQU.n|ty rates in 1927. Rates were, outstanding to both local bodies, but .there was insufficient cash in. hand npd no authority for 'operating the society’s banking account. An incorporated society was supposed to son|d a copy of its balance-sheet to; the Registrar of Incorporated Societies annually. This, had not be;en done since 1924, and a. few months ago; the registrar, had written stating that as the socjiety appeared to, be defunct he proposed to take steps to wind it up unless cause could be shown why this should ! not be done. On receipt of this letter a statement of the position had been forwarded. Mr Thompson said that nothing was Coming in from the section,' which a quarter-acre in size and had cost about £3O, but the fund had to bear bank charges and rates. Mr Booth stated that an incorporated society had power to; apply to the Valuation Department for a, substantial reduction on land held for public purposes. It would be advisable to endeavour to secure this deduction in rates, which were heavy, as. the section was valued for rating purposes at £6O. Mr Murdock asked if some use c,ould n.ct be made of the section. It had been sugugested that a public library should be established. The cagh should be deposited in the Post Office Savings Bank, so that charges) would be saved and interest gained'. ■ On the; motion of, Mr Slhiltiojii, seconded by Mr. Thompson, it was decided that the acc.oun|t with the Bank of , New Zealand be closed, and an account opened in the post office in, the name's ( of Messrs J. M. Thompson and IW. Booth. • At Mr Thompson’;?, suggestion Mr W. Bootlh agreed to carry c»n the business and apply for a reduction in , rating. HALL PIANO. •Mr H. Hoff, the .trustee for. the pub- . lie. piano, which was destroyed when i
the hall whs burned, reported that he had been appointed Secretary by reso,z lutiqn of the Kerepeehi Ratepayers’ Association in iAuguust, 1924. The cash in hand in 1923 £5 17s*. Various receipts since then for 'hire of the piano had. .totalled £l6 17s, and the expenditure on repairs and tiinI Ing had cost £l2 9s 9d, leaving ;a, balance in hand of £9 4s 3d. Sundry J debtors owed about £3 6s. The piano . had been insured in 1925 for £75. The \ policy was renewed in 1926, but no . notification that another premium was due had been received 1 until the night before the fire, when a lettejr was received stating tha.t the premium for the year 1927 was due. There had always be:en sufficient cash in hantj to pay the. premium, but as. no notification had been received he had ’ overlooked the matter,. Mr Thompson,- said it was unfortunate tha.t the £75 insurance had been lost through the expiry of the policy. They should decide; the fate of the c.ash in hand. On the mo’tiqn of Mr Huff, seconded by Mr Shilton, it was decided tlhiat the money be deposited in the post office savings bank by Messrs W. Booth and J. M. Thompson as trustees for. the Kerepeehi Public Piano Fund. WAITAKAKUBU. VALEDICTORY. Mr and Mrs- R. Hunter, who have resided at Waitakajr.uru fop the last fourteen fears, were the guests of the residents of the, district at the residence of Mr AV Stretton last Tuesday evening, prior to their departure for Komata, Competitions, games, dancing, and music were indulged in, and a dainty supper was; serived. The low Concrete walls have been completed, and the framework for the c.orr.ugated iron is being placed in position. The additions to the school have been delayed on Recount of the late arrival of timber, and no; progress, has been madte in connection with-the new bridge. CRICKET CLUB. Mr H. L. Berney presided at the annual meeting of the JVaJtakavuru Cricket Club last week over a small attendance of members. The annual report stated that the past season had been a very successful one. Thirteen matches had been played, and of these nine had been won and one drawn, giving the- club 26 championship points in the Hauraki Plains Cricket Association’s, competition for the Arbury Cup, which had! been won by the club after, a play-off with Turua.
