PADDY’S MARKET.
FUNCTION AT KEREPEEHI. SUCCESSFUL. CHURCH EFFORT. No.vel means of raising money for the Kerepechi Church of England had to be employed by members of the Ladies’ Guild, of which Mrs H. Booth Is president and! Mrs J. M. Thompson is secretary, as all the materials collected and ma.de for. .the contemplated bazaar were destroyed when the Karapeeh.i Hall wa.s burned. A “Paddy’s Market” was held iin Mr J. Murdock’S gayage on Saturday last, and over £33 was raised. Veryg ood business was done during, the afternoon, most of the goods being sold, an(dl dur-, ing t.hg evening the takings were further augmented by sales and competitions. The competitions were numerous an.d varied', such as, for. instance, guessing by feel and smell the contents of ten calico bags, andi the pegging on. a, c.lcthes-line of a number of articles of clothing. Among the prize-winners were the following,:— Cooking.—S'coneSj Mrs A. Hegh ; sponge, with butter, Mrs G. Courtney ; sponge, without butter, Mrs W. Thomson ; sewing, ladies, Mrs W. ThomsiQh, girls over 12 Miss D. Hines, girls under. 12 Misses D. Booth and! M. Mclntosh (tie). Map drawing: Over 12, J. Hoff; under 12, K Hoff. Essay: Miss June Price. Raffles: Crochet table-centre, Mr D. Speedy (63) ; hahld carved tray, A. Hegh (17) ; pen-paint-ed tea cosy, Miss. D. Booth, (1). Competitions : Doll’s name; (Dolly), Miss Evelyn Hegh,; weight of c.ake, Mrs W. Parsons (101 b 7oz (exact, weight) ; clothes pegging, Mr S. Collinson; Bull board, Miss G. Thompson a. n( i <Miss. E. Hegh; perfume bags, Mrs Hands. Mr Hegh, who wop the carved tray, made th© tr,a,y in the first instance, and 'he returned it to be raffled again on some future occasion.
