HAURAKI PLAINS POSITION. TREASURER’S REPORT. ‘The treasurer, Mr E. A. Mahoney, submitted the following financial statement to the last meeting of the Hauraki Plajin-. Total, £lO5B 5s Id. “Licenses, an,d Fee^. —The appointment of an inspector has had ap appreciable effect Cjii the amount ,of licensee fees collected to date. Theheavy traffic ifeos collected amount to £193 7s 9d, a& against. £179 18s, 8d for the; whole of last year. Several renewals, now due will bring the year’s collections to; well over £2OO. Hire licenP.es collected tidal £77 6s 10d, with several renewals. due as agafp&t £6l for the whole of last year. “Interest on the overdraft for the half-year was, only £6 4s 10d, which may be regarded as, very satisfactory. Main highway subsidies claimed and parsed in July are slow in coping to hand, and o,nly one; payment on ac,i count of Pekapeka Road, £429, has been received out of £2676 ciwiing. The total amount of Subsidies claimed, but unpaid is £2966 'ss, 7d. In addition, to these, the engineer is, preparing claims for main highways subsidy for the uuar.ter ended September 30. “Assessor’s Fee. —It will be niecessary to fix a fee ifor the assessor, Mr H. Mills, appointed under the tion of Lands, Amendment Act. “Patetonga Reads' Loan. —The loan was carried by 37 votes to 3 at the poll held on September 18. When in Wellingon I interviewed the Minister of Lands, as instructed, apd asked that the work on the main road be pushed on, by Ms department. He promised tc; expedite the work a's, far as fundal woiuld permit. ' “Kaihere-Torehape Loan.-—I interviewed the Minister of Lands regarding his letter off August 8, in which he declined to allow the metal On Torehape Road gratis. After hearing fresh facts, which 1 was able; to, place before him, he promised reconsideration of the matter. “Waitakaruru Water Supply.—l in-f terviewed the Minister, of Public, Works and asked that a subsidy of £1 fo;r £4 be granted for this work and placed on the Supplementary Esti-. matejs. The, Minister telegraphed to the resident engineer at Paeroaf .for a report, and will give the matter sympathetic consideration. “Conference of County Clerks.— The Conference of County Clerks was held in Wellington, on September. 26, and nearly 100 clerks, from all over the) Dominion attended. The Minister of Land's, attended the opening and welcomed l the clerks on behalf of the Government. Five raqre branched, each with ap executive of five, were formed, in addition to the Auckland and (Otago branches, which were already ip existence. The branches are;: Auckland, Taranaki, Hawke’S. Bay and East Coh;s,t, Wellington, Canterbury, West Coast, and Otago. Your clerk was re-elected to the Auckland executive. The Minister of Lands stated in his address that he was endeavouring to, bring down legislation by which the Crown as mortgages would apcelpt liability for hospital and special rates on Crown properties. This, when effective, will be a boon to this cojunty, as. rates op all Crown, leases, abandoned or otherwise, will be recoverable. “The receipts for the month totalled £4513 Bs. 10d, beinig £4Bl 7s 9d> , from licenses, ferries, etc., £638 5s 9d from general rates, £653 17s 4d from spepial rates, £lO5B 5s Id subsidy on rates, £1348 2s 2d masin highway subsidy, £62 4h. lid on thirds, ap;d £l7l 5s 10d Government grant.”
