SMOKE CONCERT.
RAILWAY SERVANTS’ FUNCTION. DRIVERS’ ASSOCIATION BRANCH. A s|moke coneprt was held on Saturday evening in the Club Hall as an official opening, of a branch of the Engine-drivers’ Firemeat aR d Cleaners’ Assqcialon which whs rei cently foamed in Paeroa. There were present, Mr H. H. (Stirling, General Manager ojf, N.Z. Railways ; Mr. Dews, president of. the E.F.C.A. of Frankton Junction; Mr Walker, locomotive foreman, and the local staff of railway employees. The evening, was ; opened witji the toa,st to “The King.” followed by a short speech by t,he chairman) (Mr Dews) congratulating the local stoff on t,he, forma;tiqn of the new branch and in choosing men to fill the positions as officers who were quite, capable of. undertaking the duties required of them. , Mr. W. Wilson, president of the tojc'al branch, thanked the chairman f<?|r his remarks, and added that it, pleased him greatly to lio-ldi the. position of president. ■Mr Stirling then said a few .worefe concerning railway matters, and added that it was a pleasure to be amongst the men and wished? them to regard him as an equal at, any function he chahced to attend. A toafet. to the R.iO.L (Railway Offieerf Institute) was, proposed by Mr Allen ahd responded to, by Messrs mqnds and Walker. The longevity of the E.F.C.A. was proposed by Mr. Stirling, Mr Dews' replying. The “Health of the Ladies” was proposed by Mr R. Howard! au.|d wa's responded to by Mr C. Wqnt'hington. During, the evening items .were rendered by three members of the Hauraki Orchestra (Mes'srs J. Rooney, piano, W. F. Frasier, steel guitar, a.nd T. W. Hartley, violin) Messrs Fraser and Hartley, Hawaiian! guitar duets; Messrs Jut'sqn, songs, "Three Fishers,” “Less than the dust,” “Stonecracker Joe,” and Kashmiri Song” ; song's, “William t,he Conqueror” and “Little Wiggle-iwaggle”; Fox, sqngs, “Persian Rosebud” and “All getting 'Older, together”; Gireen'halgh, song's,, "Garden Suburb” and “Story-bopk Ball” ; SauWders, whistling chorus “My Blue Heaven”; 'Wafflion, demqnstration of b'onq-playing; Burke, Chisholm, and Taylor, recitations.
