RYE LANE BRIDGE.

TRANSFORMATION OF AREA. WORK NEARING COMPLETION. Some time ago the Paeroa BCjrough Council decided to reconstruct the bridge over the outfall drain at. Rye Lape, This, in order to make a joib of the structure, necessitated the raising of the road and alstoj the cleaning out of the- drain. When the old bridge near the Criterion Hotel was dismantled the Mayor, ever on the alert for the benefit of the tojwn, secured the- old oc|n,j c,rete piles that were bei ( n£ scrapped. With these he has done some wonderful work, and to-day is to be seen 3} bridge with a carriage-way OE i&f.t and a concrete footpath of lift. This structure is equal to' the requirements- of the Main. Highway standard in strength and width. It stands,'well above flood level. The Street and fooitpath '.have been lifted two feet, and -the two upper portions graded and straightened. The alteration® have undoubtedly improved the appearance of the whole street out. of all knowledge, and the work is a permanent ass,et to Paeroa. What is more pleasing, is the fac.t that this; undertaking has been com-] pleted out, of revenue, and possibly is tlie cheapest bridge of it's kind that, has ever been cojnrtruc.tedl by a local body in the Dominion. This, of cCjurse, was entirely due to the fact that us.e was ma,de of ;the- pile's from the old Criterion) bridgeWhile this work was being carried out the opportunity w r as taken to reconstruct and metal the Prospect Terrace rise, add this work is now nearing completion. One of the ■ most important improvements in this vicinity is the raising, widening, and regrading of the corner of Rye Lane and Mill® 1 ' Avenue. This corner has always been a bad place, and motorists; will appreciate the alterations made.
