It is now a time in the history of our town ton face facts, not in a. spirit of foolish optimism or equally fqolisih pessimism. During the last three years we have seen quite a number, of nqw businesses established. This, was niaije possible only by the building of additional shops a.n,d the renovation of others. The erection ej' businfess pla.ces and the opening qf new businesses have undoubtedly changed the tone and added a good deal of importance to -the town. The building of the theatre, with its ( block of shops which alone contains ten new businesses, has done a lot to alter the appearance.- and consolidate Pa,eroa. The further addition of a new concrete structure in ithe place of the old wooden building known as Spry’s Corner .is a, decided improvement to the centre of the town ; andi when the present work is completed two more shops, which have already been let, will be made available. The building of houses hasi, however, not been so, active as the building and renovation of shops. Although quite a number of residences have been built, it. is Safe to say that if a scqrc more were to be erected they would be speedily occupied. The injquiry for homes, and also businesses', in the town is a good sign, and shows that Pa.er.oa,' from outside at least, is favourably thought of. Nqw, what, are the business men of the town doing to, create, and maintain tiie position that could be brqught about by a little organisation and enthusiasm ? To instill it. injto them, \ve reiterate our previous statement that a combined effort must be made, ft is in the: aggregate of combined effort that the maximum result is obtained. .“Support your own town” should be our slogan. Purchase in the town everything that cap' possibly be manufactured locally. The more the trading activities o;f the people are kept within the tqw.nl the better it is for, all concerned. Especially does this apply to manufacture, while by trading within, the town an impetus is given to employment, increasing the population and generally making for prosperity and progress. It is obviously detrimental for business of any kind whic.h can be satisfactorily done in the town tq drift to qutside commercial ce.ntr.es. At one time there was a, cry that stocks wer© too limited and out-of-date, but that cau.n>ot bo, said to-day, for we venture to say that the stocks held by the business men and :tlie craftsmen employed in manufacturing are equal to. tho.se in towns many times larger than Paeroii. The determination to sell me.re goods is- the foun.dlaticn of successful manufacturing and marketing, and with that, endi in vidw, and with a hearty co-operation qf the business men of the town, much may be accomplished. There are many reasons, generally recognised by the majority of the people, why e,n,e should “support the home town.” and we appeal to all to spend their money in their own tqwn, where it will be circulated and used in the interests of all. 'With this, policy firnily established. Taerqa’s future should be a prosperous, one.
