OPERATIONS IN OU IN EMURI. ENGINEER’S REPORT FOR MONTH. The following report bn work done in September in the Ohinemuri County was submitted to yesterday’s meeting of the council by Mr L. E. Shaw, acting-engineer: — “Waihi Riding.—All metal roads in this riding are in good repair. The time during this, period has been given chiefly to repairing flood damage on Pukewera Road and Birch’s- Road. The metalling, of. portion of Pukewera Read, which has been held up during the .wintelr. is njow being continued, and if conditions remain favourable the work will be Completed during the present month. The small grade! recently purchased has, been converted for use with two horsfes, and is e inn seirtt to this riding. “Kaimanawa, Riding.—Good progress was being made with the metalling of the roads in this, area, but owiiig to, a breakage in .the crushing plant the work was for some time Suspended. The tractor and grader are being, em ployed grading in thq shoulders on all roa.ds. . ~, “Mangaiti Riding.-The roads * this riding are in good order, an|d th workmen are being, employed mostly , C;U the Hamilton-Paeroa main hitway Tenders have been called lot the Snakey Bend deviation, and close at 2 p m. this day- . “Waikino Riding.—The remamdei of the 6in pipes fw repairs to the water supply have come to and the repairs, to the main and the cleaning of the dam and reservoir will bq put in hand during the coming week- • All the soft roads are in a bad state of repair, as is general at this tune of the year, particularly the hill section of. the Waitawheta rqad. Good progress is being made by the, Pubh Works Department on the deviation at this poinlt. “The usuual maintenance has been carried cut. in the Paeroa, Karangahake, and Waitekauri “Hamilton-Paeroa Highway.— Tile metalling of portion of this, length is proceeding satisfactorily- The swamp section between! Cadman Road and. Mill Road that was damaged by the recent flood has been re-metajled, an nb.w sjio,ws a considerable improvement. This metal has yqt to be blinded and rolled. The 2ft. pipes for enlarging the culvert pear, the Te Aroha borough boundary have come to hand and will be placed «in position as early as possible}. “Paerba-Kopu- Highw.ay.—The surface of this, road is becoming very rough, and requires resurfacing with fines. Gravel for this purpose can be obtained from Smith’s, gravel pit cjn tihe Settlement Road, and I would recommend that the council accept Mr Smith’s offer of tliq council having the sole rights to the gravel pit. “Hikutaia-Nethertqn Ferry Highway.—The patching of this road is in hand, and the, shoulders, are also being graded in' Top-dressing for. this length can als'o be supplied from the grav&l-pits, on Settlemelnt Road. “Paeroa Water Supply—The main dirm and the supplementary dam of the water supply have been cleaned out, and new filters have been installed.”
