THE PEACE CUP MATCH. 1 f LAST SATURDAY’S PLAY. 1 On Saturday the Paeroa, team—the, ’ lapt challengers: for the season- -suf- ' fered defeat at the hands of the Morrinsville fifteen, in a contest for the 1 Peace Cup. The game was fast, open, 5 and exciting. The visitors decidedly 1 had the better: of the first quarter and : practically held their own in the sec.1 o,nd quarter, but after half-time the ' holders of the cup forced the pace ! and gained a distinct advantage. Paproa attacked, Lockett being pushed c : ut. Still pressing, Paeroa failed with a penalty kic,k, and Play was very exciting in Morrin.sville’s twenty-five until Thomas kicked well down the field. Morrinsville livened I up and play was even until Thomas cros|s-kicked and put his side on the attack, but the visitors were collaring wqll and stemmed the r.ujjh. Campbell, Mulcahy, and Rc ; bs,on were combining well and broke away many times, only to be checked by solid tackling. The sun was; a great handicap to the home team. On the change-over Morrinsville, playing with the sun, gained ground. Frc-m a scrum Campbell had a great opportunity but knocked on. Paeroa. cleaned, ap(d during the, ensuing play the backs broke away only to be, pulled up by Campbell with a splendid tackle. Robson and Campbell figured in many passing bouts, and eventually Thomas, Robson,, and Campbell started off for the latter to score a brilliant | try, Thomas; failed with, the kic,k-Pae-rqa 6, Morrinsville 3. At the beginning of. the last quarter Paeroa attacked strongly, but Thomas relieved with .a, penalty kick. Paeroa c,ame again and, being awarded a penalty, Mcßae landed a goal. Paeroa 9, Morrinsville 6. Morrinsville then set up a sustained attack. After Paeroa had forced once, Robson sent out to Anderson, who fumbled the ball. O’Brien received from the scrum and worked the blind side with Robson, and Anderson for the latter to go over. Paeroa 9, Morrinsville 9. The home team brought the ball straight, down' the field again, and from a scrum near .the twenty-five liliei O’Brien, Mulcahy, Mailed, Robsqn, and Campbel? handled in turn, a hd the last-named wenjt over wide out. Anderson made a good attempt to convert. Morrinsville 12, Paeroa ?. The visitors.’ went to the attack ■ an(d carried play up-field!, but Mqrrinsville brought the ball back. Howard marked in Paeroa’s. twenty-five and kicked to Andeps'on, and the bajl travelled right back tq the other, outside man and Campbell scored after a. strong run. Anderson added the trimmings. Morrinsville 17, Paeroa 9. The heme side took the ball down- ■ field again with pretty passing rushes, , but from the five-yards scrum Paeroa worked clear, a; few yards, but. were penalised in an ensuing scrum, and Anderson goaled. Morrinsville 20, I Paeroa 9, Mulcahy secured and dribbled the, ball through, but Paeroa forced. The visitors forced: again immediately afterwards', when; Anderson

NGATEA’S VISIT TO AUCKLAND The Ngtaea Club’s annual visit to Auckland eventuated on Saturday last, when a match was played against the Auckland Suburbs senior team at Avondale, in return for a match played at. Ngatea (some time I ago. Owing to the laten'es? ni the season it wa,s not possible for .the whole, of the Ngatea team to make the journey, and! the team that took tile field was as follows : C. Blacklaws, J. Thompson, R. Madgwick, Dillimore, J. McPherson, C. White, S. Dalgety, H. Kirkman, H. Martin, L. Peekham, Schofield, S. McKerchar, A. McDuff, F. Hamilton. The game resulted in a, win! for the Suburbs: team by 15 points to 9. After the match the Ngatea players were the guests of. the Auckland Rugby Union at ,the Ponsonhy-Uni-versity club fina.l, and in the evening attended the Suburbs Club’s annual smoke concert. Wesft. ANNUAL SOCIAL. The social secretaries reported en the work done for the annual stocial, which is to take place on Monday next.
