BENEFIT SPORTS A,T PAEROA. A SUCCESSFUL UNDERTAKING). Oddfellows’ Day—as, it was known in Paeroa—on Saturday last parsed! oil in a moist successful manner under perfect weather conditions. During the morning there, was a large influx c,f Oddfellows, not. alone: from Tuakau a.nd Cambridge, but from adjoining places. To try cone ins ion si at .football was o,ne purpose, but .the great underlying feature of the visit was the fraternal gathering of members, uf the Order. With the true feeling of brotherhood they came to return Baeida’s visit, to, them in their respective towns, and it must have been highly gratifying, to, the local members of the Order to see how well the respective lodges were represented. On arrival in the town they were heartily received by the representatives of theLoyal Jubilee Lodge, and from that moment until midnight were well looked after. At the conclusion of the. basketball and hockey matches the ladies were entertained to alfterniQon tea by the sisters of the Jubilee Lodge and their friends. In order to help the- H. Robinson benefit fund it was decided that, the net profits from both the games and . scial should be handed over to this fund. The programme was as follows : — Basketball : Cambridge v. Paeroa, 2 p.m. Hockey : Tuakau v. Paeroaj (ladies), 2 p.m. Football : Tuakau v. Netberton, No; 2 ground, 2 pan. ; Cambridge v. Pivott. • The ladies’ hockey match was an, interesting contest, although the local team won by a fair margin of points. Pae,ro;a. attacked from the, bully-off, and after brisk work P. Pivott netted. The home team kept up the pressure, and t.wo more goals, shot by A. O’Neil and V. Shand, followed in quick succession. Halfway through the spell Tuakau showed to advantage,, and !• Meiklejojin .sent in. a hot shot which ■found the after, a defending back had flicked the ball with her stick. Paeroa. set to work and allowed the visiters no respite for the remainder of the first half, and V. Shand netted twice more before ha|lf-time. On resuming, although the game was well contested, Paeroa still showed to) advantage, and A. O’Neil, C. Swann, an.d P. Pivott each shot a. goal, the games ending with the Scares Paeroa 8, Tuakau 1. Mr L. Ma|hon was referee. FOOTBALL. TUAKAU V. NETHERTON. The Tuakau v. Netherton football match also, resulted in ani easy win for the loc,al team. During the first half play was very even, and Tuakau appeared to have ,a| good chance of winning. However, in the third quarter the visiters went to pieces and Nethertoai. piled on the points. Neither side showed to advantage for some time, and the fir,s|t quarter was nearly over before TuakB|U had to register a, force. Further loose play in midfield saw Courtn|ey get in two. speculators which allowed him to ■:co.re for Ne.thert.on. T. Johnson converted. In the second round Pullar had to do a lot of work for the home side, and on several 'qc.casions saved in dangerous, situations MCNteil made a good dash into Tua|kau’|s twentyfive, but the’ visitors worked out again and Asher sprinted d©.wn the centre of the field. When in a handy position he, essayed a drop-kick, but. failed to connect with the bait .Shortly afterwards McAlpine took a penalty shot from halfway and with a splendid . kick made the scoyes 3 alt 1 After half-time play was restricted , lf o midfield until a rush by Netherton reached the visitors’ line. Although the defence, held for a time, Netherton 110'O.ked' in a scrum and Coldicutt was sqnt away for a try which E. Pot-' ter converted. Tuakau then appeared to lose heart, and two trie.-; were registered by Netherton before the quarter ended. First Johnson broke away from a line-out and crossed the lin.e, and then Craig by fast following up added three more pojn,ts. Both these tries were converted by Pqtter, and the scores were 18 to 3 in favour of Netherton when change-over came. Tuakau livened up again, apd N'ethertc,n twice had to force. After up an 4 down play the. ball went out in the visitors’ twenty-five, and from the throw-in Wright gained possession an|tl scored near, the posts. Bert c,onverted. For the remainder of the game Netheron applied pressure, with McNeil putting in several good runs, but the defence held and the game ended Netherton 23, Tuakaju 3. Mr J. M. Crosby was referee. PAEROA V. CAMBRIDGE. This game wag very evenly contested, and. the scores; would have been much closer onlj’ for the Cambridge backs failing to finish off their movements cleanly. Paeroa attacked, and within) a f©w ■minutes of commencing Cambridge

forced. Paeroa resumed the pressure until Byrne relieved. The lrdme team sa|ved from loose rushes with a number of marks, but the Cambridge backs returned, and close play foil* lowed o.n the line. Paeroa cleared with a mark. Peter, on returned play to Paeroa’s twenty-five with a fine kick from his own -territory, but. a penalty relieved after close play on the line. Paeroa, rushed to the corner in, the second quarter, but. in loose play Cambridge, worked back to midfield, where, numerous kicking exchanges took place. The visiters pressed, and after tight play Paeroa forced. Several passing rushes by Cambridge failed through faulty handling, and Ashcroft cleared for Paeroa with a neat, intercept. The Cambridge full-back failed to handle a hard punt, and Kerr by good following up scored a try just before halftime.

In the evening a social function was held at the Gaiety Theatre, and this wasi largely patronised and the visitors well looked after. For those who did not care to dajnee euchre was provided, so that nqt a dull moment was experienced. Excellent dance music, was provided by the Hauraki orchestra, and the evening went with a merry swing—sei much so that all were loath to leave when timei was called. Bro. K. L. Slyfleld, the social secretary,, ably assisted by the (M’s.C., P.G. Bro.. C. Townshend' and Bro. R. Morrison, and the officers and brethren c ; f the lodge, are to be commended for the smocith running a,nd pleasant evening’s entertainment Amojngst those present were Bro. Walter Giibb, District Grand Master, Auckland; Bro. F. Best, deputy-Grand Master., Cajmbridige ; Tuakau and Cambridge brethren, and a large number of Oddfellqws frfom the lodges in the Thames Valley. The Staj' of Paeroa Druids Lodge was represented by Bro. J. T. Broiwn. The euchre prizes were presented by the Grand Master, who alse> presented' a past Grand's emblem to P.G. Bro. D. C. F. Snow. 'After supper, dancing was continued until midinight; The Cambridge visitors left qn Sunday morning and the Tuakau brethren in the afternoon.
