On Saturday the Thames Valley representatices journeyed to Hamilton to. play the Waikato representatives, and were defeaed by 25 to 0. Owing to the games, played on the Saturday and! Wednesday aga.lnst Auckland and Taranaki, quite a number, of -men were unable through injuries tq make the trip, and it was with difficulty that a team could be mustered. The team wag as follows ;—

KNOCK-OUT COMPETITION. FINAL WON BY SUBURBS. The Paeroa Rugby Union’s knockout competition for the Drysdale Cup was concluded, at the local domain on Saturday when Suburbs beat. West by 9 points .to 3. Adverse weather conditions affected the attendance of the public. Heavy raini fell for a. couple *qf hours prior to one o’clock, and with a n overcast sky the- afternoon passed with frequent, showers. Both sides fielded a scratch team, and this fact, together. with the bad playing conditions, accounted! for the poor exhibition given. The teams were as follows: — Suburbs.—Mcßae, E. Bennett, ;WBennett, Watene., McHar.vey, Morri" sen, Maloney, E. Rare, Brown, Duncan, Tohu, T. Killgour, A. Morrison, Gibb, Miller. West—Fraser, Wells, Knight, Verram Niehl, P. Poland, Hale-, W. Taylor, Sweeney, Hamilton, G. Taylor, V. Carrick, L. Carrick, ' Slyfield , M. Poland. The k'ick-off wag followed by a penalty to W e st. Hamilton chased the ball and caught Watene in- possession in Suburbs’ t>venty-flve. ' The defenders prevailed and Killgour led the forwards down the field to Fraser, when, a knock-on allowed West to clear. Another forward rush saw West force. After loose plqy in neutral territory Knight and D- Carrick were prominent in a rush 'to Suburbs’ line for. a force West again pressed, but A. Morrison led the defenders out again to midfield. West gained ground, and a forward rush reached Suburbs’ line, where a penalty relieved. The .visitors forced l from a hard kick, and then Morrison and Maloney dashed down the field, but Eraser went down to it and made a. gtood save a. few yards from the line, play returning to midfield.
For some tijme neither side ga.in.ed an advantage, in the second quarter, an;d> then C.arrick, Hamilton, and Sb’field guided l the. ball over Suburbs’ line, for a force. Suburbs gained ground with line play, and pressed hard in th® corner. In a scrummage Taylor struck Maloney in the face and was ordered off the field, but. the referee, at the request of the Suburbs captain,, allowed him to return. Immediately afterwards E. Bennett had a great opportunity to score -without opposition, but he; failed to handle the fiajl. The West, .forwards, turned de" fnece into attack, and a. penalty was given against A. Morrison, J n front of the pasts. Taylor failed tc> score, but a minute later made amei)|ds with a fine penalty kick from halfway. West. 3, Suburbs Q.
Play was continued without a, spell, and the; thiird quarter opened with more dash being shown. Maloney retired on account of his injured jaw and was re.placqd by Hake. Suburbs indulged! in la parsing rush, but.,a hard kick by Mcßae sent the ball over, for a force. Ii j; open play Watene punted down, the field, and Killgour and F. ■MarrisCiii i:n turn, improved the position! for Su burbs. From tight, play on West’s linen a defender attempted to clear, but his kick was blocked, the ball rebounding over the line for A. Morrison to dash over for a try. McRae kicked' a good goal. Suburbs 5, West 3. The Suburbs backs cwnbinied better than the opposing rearguard, and, as a result of parsing mioivements gained ground until Watene, when an opportunity offered, drop"kicked a good goal from the field; Suburbs 9, West. 3.
Both sides opened up the game in the filial ro.un.d> and for some time play was fast and open in neutral territory. Verrain was caught in possession, but. Killgour threw awav the chance to sco*re by handling the ball. Shortly afterwards West, forced in a scramble on the line. Poland made a good run dawn the field but failed to make the most, his da,sh by kicking prematurely, suburbs worked out again, and McHarvey put West, oji< the defence with a line kick. After several serums West cleared and L. Carrick led the forwards into Suburbs’ territory. However, ,n|o further score resulted, and the game finished shortly afterwards with play in .neutral territory, and with Suburbs victorious by 9 points to 3. Mr W. Jonas was referee.
