On Tuesday the Governor-General c;peiied the Wellington, Winter Show within its own permanent building. This building is the largest one-floor space structuie in the Dominion, it providing 160,000 square feet of floor space.
Sc ; me excitement was caused recently in Hunter Street, by a woman endeavouring tq escape from the clutches of a man, who was said to be a seafarer, and who had been enjoying himself ashore. The. man accused the woman of having stolen, a roll of bank notes from him, which she stoutly denied. The woman broke away, but was pursued and caught by the man, who, pointed to a peculiar bulge in one of her stockings below the calf. Much to the amusement of a crowd cf onlookers, the .man insisted on the woman taking down} her stocking, and -wlieii she had done so the cause, qf the bulge was found to be the missing money. The woman handed the hotes to her accuser and then hurried away.
t It is not generally known among motorists that the New Zealand Government is enforcing fitting of reflectors, and has a set. standard in regard to> rear reflectors on cars and motor-cycles. The reflectors must be clearly seen at 150 ft and at an a,ngle of 35 degrees on either side of normal. All motorists whose, reflectors are defective in this respect are liable tc prosecution now, as the. time: of suspension of prosecutions has expired. Two motorists were fined 10s. each in Auckland recently fc ; r having no reflectors.

A few mornings agp a man in Paeroa spied a young man in the act of extracting his paper witli a pen-knife from his doorway. “Ah ! 1 caught you !” exclaimed the owner. “YeS,” said the guilty would-be purloiner of the “inky way” ; “1 was just going to have a. read.”
Two artists who recent delighted listeners will appear again at. IYA Auckland on Saturday, September. 22, states the New Zealand Radio Record. They are Mrs Daisy Barham, of Ngatea, and Mr Arthur Briggs, qf Thames. Their programme will include solos and duets from Gilbert, and Sullivan’s “Mikado,” “Patience,” and “Ruddigore”—three numbers from each work. The duo will give Hie dialCgnp/ leading up to their items.
