CHILD DRIVERS.
A CASE BEFORE THE COURT. WARNING TO PARENTS. The Motor Vehicles Act provides that, no bne under the age of 15 years may be granted a driver’s license. By allowing his son to take the wheel of his car, Arthur J. Petherick made himself answerable iq a, charge of “aiding., assisting, ' counselling, and procuring tihe commission of an offence—that of allowing $ person under the age of 15 years to. drive his car.” The case was heard in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court this week, but defendant did kvLvot. appear. > Y Senior-Sergeant Butler stated that the boy could have been charged in the Children’s Court with driving without a license, but it had been thought wiser to charge the father with aiding the offence. In this way the publicity which would be. given to the offence- would serve as a warning to others. . “It is necessary t.o bring home to parents the fact tha.t they must npt. permit young people to drive,” said the magistrate (Mr J. H< Salmop), who imposed a fine of £l.
