A start ha,s been made with the erection of the Waitakaruru eheejse factory.. Mr E. A. Chester, off Netlierton, has the contract in hau(d, and hopes to have the. factory ready for work by the end of October. The licensing referendum just taken in New South Wales, is substantially different tc ; the issues as put to the people on national prohibition in New Zealand, where a poll, the outcome of the Efficiency Board’s proposals, was rejected in 1916. Although this also provided for a fqrni of compensation. the considerations were; not as complicated as .those voted upon i n Australia. There are no specified sums covering compeaisation, as this is to be decided by a special board ur court: in the event o.f the main affirmative proposal being carried.
