NGATEA SCHOOL.
MONTHLY COMMI'I'TEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Ngatea District High School Committee was held on Monday evening, Mr W. McDuff pre iding over Messrs R. Cornthwaites C. Vagg, C. S. Foster, W. P. Wylde,- and E. C. Barriball (secretary). It was reported that since the previous meeting a cricket pitch and three paths had been laid, the cejurt tarred and sanded, and a heater placed in the shelter-shed classroom. The Education Board advised that there was a balance of subsidy amounting to £l7 Is 3d available for improvement:; at the school. Accounts: totalling £l3 19s 5d were passed for payment. The Edhcation Board advised that consequent upo,n the additional Government grant the- board had re' olvcd to increase the allowance for. incidental expenses for the year 1928 by five per cent. SPORTS MEETING. The Kaihere School Committee wrote with reference to-, the suggestion made that a championship sports meeting be helcl annually and to be open to. all schools in the Hauraki Plaint County. It was advised tliat should the sugge.tion find favour a delegate would be appointed to attend a meeting to- discuss the matter. Members pointed out tha,t the- Kaihere committee probably sa.w the matter mentioned in the “Gazette” report of the Ngatea Committee mee.ting. Mr Barriball supported the idea, and expressed the opiniqn; that the proposal was -quite workable. Mr Fo.ter explained that his idea wajs to flndi the champion runner of each school an.d rtage a race to decide the championship. It was decided to advise the Kaihere committee that it,was in favour of going on with the matter. Mr C. S. Foster, was deputed to represent the committee at the sugge ted meeting. ' It was suggested that application be made to the trustees of the-, fund left by a Hamiltojn man for trophies for such purposes. RENOVATIONS, ETC. The secretary, Education-Board, advised that a, grant of £2O had been authorised for the provision of a bicycle and caddie shed, erection of screen at girl’s out-O|ffice, and repairs to steps at old shelter-shed schoql building. The matter of providing a bicycle and sladdle shed was left to the chairman, with po.wer to act REMOVAL iOF SPOIL. The Ngatea Public Hall Society advised that it would require 170 1 yards of tpCjil for filling its road frontage drain, and that it wo ( uld like to know if the school committee had a,ny available. and at what price. The matter was deferred, penidipg an inspection of the play-ground, SANITATION. On the motion of Mr Vagg it was decided to again write to the Education Board seeking information concerning the installation of septic tanks.
