I very responsible work to undertake, inasmuch as that the, slightest en5 croachment on the perogatives of the ’ owners may 'have: led to opposition, • which could have easily brought hardt ship to many tharemilkers. It wa.s s recognised that success could only be 1 achieved by combining equity and • progress, the main objects of you l 5 association. Any colour of Labour ' Unionism would have; proved disi aistr,C;Us. To-day nothing can be: left I to chance, and it 'is this fact which ha.s partly brought about the- forma- ■ tion; of your association, and it is ! known! from a Sharemilker’s point of ’ view, and also an owner's, ’that equit- ’■ able, long, and precise agreementswill justify both parties to dq| their be?t • to carry out the obligations imposed. 1 I would add that the farmers we want in this association arc .those whom wc 1 can with sincerity recommend to own- ; ers and bring together with the great- '■ esit confidence ajid mutual feeling. '■ “We trust in the future .to be able ’ to establish a fund for the assistance of sharemilkers who are deserving • and require aid. The machinery for ' thi s fund has been set in motient If ■ you wish the movement to be a sue- , cess, then, i would urge! you to do your ‘ utmost individually to take an inter- ■ est so far. as your .time, will allow. t “I have to thank the members cf • the executive for their helpful efforts • a,nd patience, especially Mr Wells, ■ who I trust will be prc.ud! of being the first to; sluggest the a'-sqciation’s > formation. • He has been untiring in f. his efforts to establish the launching. of the movement.” - FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE. i After the tabled business of the ■ meeting was concluded the president i brought up the subject of foot qjnd i mouth disease, and the following resoi lution was passed :—• “That this meeting of farmers and • members of the N.Z.
