NGATEA. NGATEA HALL SOCIETY. The. monthly meeting qf the executive committee of the Ngatea Public Hail Society was 'held on Tuesday evening, Mr W. G. Hayward (vicpresident) presiding over Messrs. J. Darlington, L. Buckingham, and S. Tarver (secretary). SPOIL FOR DRAIN. An explanation of the long standing difference with reference to; the Supply of soil for, use in filling, in the drain! on . the road frontage, was received from the' Ngatea schopl committee. It waj, decided to ask if the. sichool committee could make available, about 170 yards of spoil. GLEE CLUB CONCERT. The secretary reported that the Hall Society’s share of the proceeds of the Ngatea Girls’ Glee Club’s concert was £9 17si 6d. On the motion of Mr Darlington it wag decided to send a letter ojf appreciation to Mrs F. Basham. FINANCIAL STATEMENT. The. financial statement for the month of August showed revenue totalling £2B 18s 4d, and expenditure (iQ.cflud.ing’ a proportion! of the annual charges), £l5 Os 3d. The bahk overdraft was £7l 18s 1. Accounts due to the, society amounted, to £6 3s. 3d, and accounts owing were. £32 13s lld. MUSIC COPYRIGHT. The secretary was, empowered to renew the agreement with the Australasian Performing Rights Association in reference to the royalty manfled Ry the right to have- copyrighted music played in the hall.
NETHEBTON. MUSICAL SOCIETY’S EFFORT. In. the Nethertqn Hall recently a concert was given, by the, Netiiertoii' Musical Society, the: proceeds of which were ( to ba devoted to the Netherton Anglican Church Building Fund. The vicar of the parish, the Rev. W. G. H. Weadon, presided. Under the direction of Mr Welch, senr., choruses were rendered by tire choir as follows: “Hail ‘ Smiling Mo,ru,” “A Spring Song,” “Sec cur oars with feathered spray,” and the “Soldiers’ Chorus” from “Faust.” A very pleasing item was “We are •fairies, lightly swaying,’’given by a quartette of. the junior members of the. society, Misses Jean Adam ,Caulkwell, potter, and 'Jean Vowlet. Solo.s . were, given by Mrs Adam, Misses Adam ' and Matthews’, and Messrs iW. and RMorrison and Wakehair. ; duets by Miss? Adam and. Mr Welch, junr.; quartettes by Mrs and Missi Adam, Godden, and Wakeham, and by Messrs Godden, W. Mwrison, Wake'h.a.m, and Welch, juiijr..; monologues by -Mrs. M. Scudamore.,.who, in. addition', acted as pianiste and accottnpanistov The programme was .varied with humorous ’items! throughout, and every performer was recjaflle'd. So pleased was the vicar that he invited the society to repeat the performance in; its entirety in Paeroa for. the benefit of the church there. The members of the local Ladies’ Guild provided supper; for'both performers and audience, after which oiije and all enjoyed a couple of hours’ dan'eing to the tuneful music rendered by Mrs Scudamoire’si' orchestra. It is anticipated that a substantial cheque will be h,a,tided to the church building committed. The next concert at Netherton: by the society will be given i-n| the near future and the funds handed to the Roman Catholic Church. So far the society has: givjen ’ concerts for tdie benefit of the Salivation Army, Presbyterian and Anglican . Churches.
