WORKS IN THE COUNTY.
OPERATIONS IN OHTNEIMUBI. ENGINEER’S REPORT FOR AUGUST. At yesterday’s meeting of the: Ohinemuri County Council the, following report on operations durin August was tabled by the acting-engineer, Mr LifV- E. Shaw :—■ “Kaima ; n<awa Riding.—Metal is being supplied from the council’s awry ta Komata for repairs to all roads in this riding. Several slips, have; be e n removed frbm the Maratoto Mine road and a temporary crossing put in at the washoiut above Mcßrinnfs .Creek. Two men have been employed on the Komata,-Maratoto track removing, trees and slips. “Wa*hi Riding.—The bridge over ■ the Mangakirikiri stream qn Old ranga Road recently washed out by flood-waters, was found toi be in a very . bad state pf repair, and ‘it was necessary to dismantle sa.me. It has n,ow been replaced by a single span structure. qn concrete several other, bridges have been repaired, and ajl metal, roads are in gcpd order. “Paeroa Riding,.—The re-sanding of '“Y Cadman Road was let to Mr Walsh, and during the month the work has been completed, the sand for. the. pur-. ■ pose being supplied by the Public Warks Department. All other roads Have received attention. “Waikino Riding.—The metalling of Co r x’s Hiiil, on Waitawheta Roja.d, has been continued during the mon,th, and the road now shows considerable improvement. The replacing of the broken majn below the Wrikino water supply dam has been delayed db, account of the piipes for.thq purpose not coming to hand. “Karangahake Riding.—The workmen’s; time in; this riding has been given chiefly to bridge repairs. Portion qf the decking on the railway has been renewed and the ' swing bridge across the river to the railway, station 'has been reconditioned, a, gocyl deal of timber and ironwork being required. “M'angaiti Riding.—Old Te Arolia Road ha=; been patched, and is in very good order. The Station, roa.d has had the shoulders graded in. “Main Highways. —These roads have ■all received usual maintenance', the !me,ta,l being supplied chiefly from the KQmata quarry. '“Crusher. —A new set of jaws has been fitted to the crusher, and the planjt is now working full time at the Komata reserve. The oil engine driving the crusher is, giving every sat'isfaction.”
