Flatt (secretary), which left Paeroa on Wednesday for. Wellington to interview the Minister for Mines (Hon. J. G. Cqates) in connection: with a propped crushing plant for Ohincmuri, returned to Paeroa thig morning. In an interview Mr -Marshall stated tha.t .their prbpqsals had been thoroughly discussed with the Minister an<} the Under-Secretary of the Mines Department, and that subject to acceptance by the directors of the Rising Sun Gqld Mining Co. it was tentatively suggested that .the proposals be amended for, a loan of £3OOO, with an annual grant of £7so' a year fqr four yea.rs towards the cost of operating the plant. The possibilities of the movement were recognised by the department, but it was evident that slhqrtage of funds .was a serious, obstacle. k Continuing, the Mayor 'Said that the Prime, Minister finally stated that he regarded assistance towards* the establishment of a public crushing plant a.s In quite a different ca.tego,ry to assistance for mine development, but he would have the matter carefully investigated, and if hiq officersi reported that the. possibilities were as stated by the deputation he thought some arrangement to finance a, head could be made So that the, facilities allied for might be provided without undue delay. The Mayor said that the objective would be actively pursued, and they were sure of the co-operation of the member for the district, Mr A. M. Samuel, who 'had given them untiring assistance.
