WAITAWHETA SETTLERS.

IMPROVED ROAD ACCESS. EARLY’ START TO BE MADE. Settlers in tlie AVaitawheta Valley afia to be provided with improved wad access in the ne.ar future, according to a letter addressed by the •Minister of Public Works (Hon. K. S. Williams) qn the subject to Mr, A. M. Samuel, M.P. for. Ohinemuri. T'he •Minister says:— “Referring to the representations’ regarding the c'onstiiiiction of the Waitawiheta road, ma,de to me, at Paeroa on April sth last by a deputation from, the Ohine.mur.i County Council,;and again, by Mr H. M. Corbett, chairman of the County Council, I ha.ve to advise that the whole position concerning t'he completion of this road has been investigatec], an/.l it appears that the proposal tq deviate tiie road by utilising tlie old timber tramlin'e is a good one.

“Regarding tlie financing, of the cost of constructing the deviation and completing the section which is at present in hapd by relief workers I have given the matter very careful consideration, and am npw af the opinion that, if the Ohinemuri County Council will arrange the necessary survey and legislation, the Government could reaonably find free money for construction. “The amount of £750 wasa uthorised some time ago, and J have pl.ea.sura ip iAfor.niiiig you that arrangements are now being made to hs.ue the additional amount necessary .to the- district engineer, at Auckland in qrder that the whole work may bfe. proceeded with at one time. “It will, however, be essentia,! for. the Ohinemuri County Cquncil to pass a resolution agreeing tq proceed immediately with legislation, aiiil have same completed as soon as possible before, any further expenditure can be incurred. When a copy of this resolution is received by tlie district engineer, at Auckland, a cqmmencement will lie made with the work.”
