NGATEA SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COJEM.ITTEE, The Ngatea. District High School Committee held its’monthly meeting on Monday evening, Mr W- McDuff presiding oVe : r, Messrs C. S. Foster, R. Corntliwaite, C. Vagg, W- P. Wylde. R. Rowling, and. B. C. Barriba.ll (secretary). The (headmaster, Mr. W. Chappell, attended Ute meeting. HEATING OF CLASSROOM. •The Auckland Education Board advised having forwarded a stove for in the detached classroom. It Xwtild be necessary ,to employ a local man to instal it. The chairman said that the stqve would be installed as Quickly as possible. METALLING OF PATHS. The secretary reported that ro.a.d metal had been obtained for pa,ths and a, man had been employed to form the paths. ■ It was decided .to ask -the Education Board to pay for the metal. DISPOSAL OF SOIL. The Nga,tea Hall Society wrote expressing surprise that tlife. soil which the gchopl Committee desired removed had been disposed of. The committee had been assured by th|e chairman of the School Committee that the spoil would be kept for 'the Hall Committee, and it had no record of a statement that the, spoil would not be required. The Hall Committee requiredya supply of spoil, and would be pleased to heap, further on .the matter. The. chairman reported that when the Hall Committee was requiring spoil fon filling in its section it. had dea.lt with. him. Later on someone else desired spoil, and asked the secretary if any further supplies were required and he replied in the negative. Accordingly, the spoil was offered to someone else. At that time the. Hall Committee had no idea of filling in. its drain. The chairman was deputed to explain the matter to the Hall Society. REQUESTS TO BOARD. . The. secretary reported that no reply’ ha.d been received from the Education Board in regard to the request for a bicycle-shed and for information on the. installation of septic tanks. " STATE OF PLAYGROUND. Mr Vagg asked whether it was intended to tar-seal the playground which had been' sanded; The headmaster, said that the sanded portion of the ground was an playground. This view was endorsed by members of the committee, whq agreed! 'that the sand was much preferable to asphalt. The committee had no idea of tarring the area, and would prefer,, when funds became available, to lay sajid on a further area. A HOCKEY GROUND.

Provision had teen made far. other sports, but there .was no area for the hockey players. •Members advocated endeavouring to have the section adjoining the school madle pa,rt of the playground. Permission was given the Nga.tea Ladies’ Basketball Club ,to use the school pitch, providfed 'they did not clash with the gam'es. CRICKET PITCH. It was decided to have a cricket pitch laid down during the holidays, the matter being left in the hands of the chairman, with powfir to act. ENTRANCE GATE. The headmaster asked what was being done in regard to the. erection of a pergola at the majn entrance. The chairman replied that the department, would not subsidise this, but it would subsidise a gate. lit was decided to obtain the Education Board’s plans of gates.
